The hips and SJ-Sacroiliac joints distribute the weight from our spine, shoulder, neck, head and into the legs and feet. It is very important to maintain the balance and integrity in the hips because the upper, middle and lower part of our body are interrelated. Any misalignment in the hips and sacrum can affect the alignment of the spine, shoulder, legs, knees and feet.
The sacroiliac joint or SI joint (SIJ) is the joint between the sacrum and the ilium bones of the pelvis, which are connected by strong ligaments. In humans, the sacrum supports the spine and is supported in turn by an ilium on each side (Source: Wikipedia)
During the workshop we will study the anatomy of the sacroiliac joint. We will discuss what can cause sacroiliac-joint pain and how to avoid it. We will practice asanas that maintain pelvic stability. Further, we will explore functional movements to reduce tightness and increase strength of the muscles surrounding the sacroiliac joint.
The workshop will be held at Unit 56, 51 Leighton Place, Hornsby NSW 2077.
